Group of Friends to Support Gaviria
QUITO, Ecuador, Jan. 16 - OAS Secretary General César Gaviria will
receive support for the ongoing negotiations in Venezuela from a Group
of Friends that will include Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Portugal, Spain
and the United States.
The countries will be represented at the level of foreign ministers,
Gaviria told reporters in Quito Wednesday, after a closed-door meeting
with the presidents and foreign ministers of several South American
countries to discuss the situation in Venezuela. The presidents of
Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Peru participated in the meeting,
which followed the inauguration of Ecuador's President Lucio
Gutiérrez.
Gaviria, who has been holding talks with representatives of the
government and opposition in Venezuela since early November, returns
to Caracas today to continue negotiations.
Grupo de Amigos para Apoyar a Gaviria
QUITO, Ecuador, 16 de enero – El Secretario General de la OEA, César
Gaviria, informó que recibirá apoyo de un Grupo de Amigos que conforma
Brasil, Chile, España, Estados Unidos, México y Portugal, para
continuar las negociaciones en Venezuela.
Los países serán representados a nivel de cancilleres, dijo Gaviria el
miércoles, luego de una reunión a puertas cerradas con presidentes y
cancilleres de varios países sudamericanos para discutir la situación
en Venezuela. Los presidentes de Bolivia, Brasil, Chile, Colombia y
Perú participaron en la reunión que siguió a la toma de posesión del
Presidente de Ecuador, Lucio Gutiérrez.
Gaviria, quien ha estado llevando a cabo conversaciones con los
representantes del gobierno y de la oposición en Venezuela desde
principios de noviembre, volvió a Caracas el día de hoy para continuar
las negociaciones.
